I was a little dubious about going out in the strong cross-offshore winds
on my own, but the waves dropped off a little and the surf was crap so I
decided i was time to go windsurfing.
I rigged my wave-board and 5m sail, but in the lee of the dunes I was
pretty sheltered from the wind so felt that I needed bigger and also rigged
my biggest board and 5.7m, which is what I started out on. The conditions
were difficult. I couldn't see the waves coming through my well used sail
and the offshore winds meant I couldn't hear them either, so negotiating
the shorebreak and getting out through the wave was a little difficult.
Once out the beack I was way overpowered and just had to head upwind
parallel to the shore in order to hold on, before plucking up the courage
to go for a gybe and head back in.
I did manage a couple of good down the line front-side wave-rides, but was
overpowered really, so went in and got my smaller kit. Unfortunately
althoough there would have been more than enough for this out the back,
getting out there on the small kit proved quite difficult as the winds in
amongst the white-water were a little flukey, on top of which the big tides
meant there was a lot of water moving around out there which just always
seemed to be dragging me the wrong way.
